Community rules

GiveHK (物有二生) is a free giveaway platform run by the Kwok Jing Cultural Funds Association. We hope every item that is still useful can have a second life with someone who needs it.

1. Give, never sell

Every item on the platform must be given for free. You must not charge any fee, deposit or “lai see”. Items you receive here are for your own use and must not be resold.

2. Describe honestly

Describe the condition of your item truthfully, including any damage or missing parts, and use real photos.

3. Be on time

Turn up on time for agreed handovers. If you cannot make it, let the other person know as early as possible. Accounts that repeatedly miss handovers may be restricted.

4. Safety first

For small items, we recommend meeting in public places such as MTR stations or malls. Do not share unnecessary personal details with strangers. If you feel uneasy, you can leave and cancel the handover at any time. If you are in immediate danger, call 999. See our handover safety guide (givehk.com/safety).

If a large item (such as furniture) needs home collection, share the necessary address by message only after you are matched, and consider having a family member or friend with you. The receiver arranges transport. The foundation does not currently offer collection or delivery.

5. Prohibited items

You must not give food, medicine, medical devices, weapons, illegal items, adult items, live animals, or anything that is regulated by law or unsafe (such as recalled products).

If a listing contains words that may indicate a prohibited item, it will be held “Under review” and published only after our team checks it.

6. Respect each other

Please be courteous. Accounts found to be involved in harassment, discrimination, fraud or other inappropriate behaviour will be suspended. If someone makes you feel uncomfortable, you can block them in the conversation. Once blocked, they cannot message you or request your items.

7. Share fairly

So that more people can benefit, each person can send up to five requests in any seven days. Requests that are declined or withdrawn do not count. Anyone can request items, and we do not check requesters’ identity or finances. Givers decide who receives their item; it is not first come, first served. We encourage givers to consider those who need it most.

8. Cancelling

After a giver chooses a receiver, if either side cannot complete the handover, please tell the other person by message as early as possible. Givers can “Reopen” the item and choose someone else, and requesters can withdraw requests that have not been chosen. Either side can also tap “Cancel handover” in the conversation. Cancelling because of a safety concern is not treated as a no-show and will never lead to an account restriction.

9. Our role

GiveHK only provides listing, request and messaging features. We do not own or sell the items, and we cannot verify every user’s identity or needs. Items are given and collected directly between users.

10. Account restrictions and appeals

If an account breaks these rules (for example by charging money, reselling, repeatedly missing handovers or harassing others), we may suspend or close it. If you think a decision is wrong, email [email protected] to appeal and we will review it.

11. Disclaimer

Items are given and collected by users themselves. We do not guarantee the condition, safety or suitability of any item. If there is a dispute, both sides should try to resolve it together. The foundation may help mediate on request but accepts no liability.

If you see an item or user that breaks these rules, please use the Report button on the item page or in the conversation. All decisions to restrict or close accounts are made by our team after a human review.
